With possible rumors swirling around a potential trade for San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was recently asked about the situation by the New England media.

It is safe to say that he took notes from his former head coach and mentor Bill Belichick.

“One thing I did learn from Bill is I don’t talk about players on other teams…We’re always looking to improve our team,” Mayo stated.

Like Belichick, Mayo did not say much in regards to a possible trade for Aiyuk, but he did not shut it down either.

After drafting rookie quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, the team might be looking to give him some more help out wide.

Trading for Aiyuk could be a blockbuster move for a team that is currently young and rebuilding.

The former first-round pick in Aiyuk has put up over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons and could immediately step in as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver.

Currently, JuJu Smith-Schuster, K.J. Osborn, Kendrick Bourne, and DeMario Douglas are the top four receivers on the team’s depth chart.

Adding Aiyuk could make this offense a lot more formidable, especially when you take into account the fact that New England already has a 1,000-yard rusher in Rhamondre Stevenson and a quality tight end in Hunter Henry.

If the team is serious about the development of Maye, trading for a star pass-catcher such as Aiyuk could be a very smart move.
