NFL legend Jerry Rice held a long list of records at the time of his retirement in 2004.

Yet Rice is realistic about the longevity of those records, including his 22,895 career receiving yards.

On the “All Facts No Brakes” podcast, Rice honestly answered host Keyshawn Johnson’s question about whether his achievements would remain untouched in today’s offensive-friendly NFL environment.

“Records are meant to be broken,” Rice said in response to whether another receiver would match his receiving-yardage mark.

Johnson prefaced the question by describing how different NFL games are today versus Rice’s time on the field.

The host added that receiving totals from today’s NFL play are not easily compared, specifically pointing out how differently defenses treated receivers during Rice’s era.

Despite predicting his records would fall, Rice noted that the reality of matching his feats would require someone willing to make sacrifices to play the position.

Rice noted that he played through nagging injuries multiple times in his 20-year career, sacrifices he made for his team’s overall success.

Matching his records would require a player to make similar sacrifices, Rice explained throughout the interview.

Another revelation in the interview was how Rice felt about being called the greatest of all time at his position.

Rice admitted when fans approach him with that specific level of praise it “freaks” him out because he does not feel he earned that title.

The 61-year-old legend was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 7, 2010.

Rice was named to 13 Pro Bowl rosters and was a first-team All-Pro selection 10 times in his storied career.
