The New York Jets are adding some help at safety as they look toward the start of their quest for a possible Lombardi Trophy.

According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Jets are signing former Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine.

A first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft (No. 32 overall), the national champion at Georgia is still just 24 years old and will be looking to make an impact on his new team.

This is an interesting addition to an already elite Jets defense.

Despite playing in just 10 regular season games over his first two years in the league, Cine has a lot of good qualities that were attractive to the Jets.

His speed in the 40-yard dash (4.37 seconds) and his height (6-foot-2) should allow him to be an extremely versatile piece in any defense.

Right now for the Jets, Chuck Clark and Tony Adams are the starting safeties, with Ashtyn Davis and Isaiah Oliver behind them on the depth chart.

It remains to be seen if Cine is going to be added to the active roster or the practice squad, but his presence brings depth.

The Jets are acquiring a first-round talent at little risk. Remember, Cine was the Defensive MVP in the CFP National Championship Game in 2022.

On defense, the Jets are stacked at all levels with Pro Bowl and All-Pro-caliber players.

The likes of linebacker C.J. Mosley, cornerback Sauce Gardner, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson are all looking to make plays in 2024.

That doesn’t even count the possible addition of Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick, who is holding out looking for a new contract after being acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

The addition of Cine is a solid depth move by general manager Joe Douglas.
