The New York Jets entered the offseason with high hopes and expectations, and they only got bigger when they got Aaron Rodgers locked and loaded for the start of the training camp.

Nonetheless, as promising as their campaign seemed at first, their joint practices and first preseason action have been a bit of a wake-up call for Robert Saleh’s team.

The Jets offensive line looked terrible in their preseason opener versus the Carolina Panthers, and it struggled mightily again going against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a joint practice.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the offensive line allowed four sacks on Rodgers, who could only complete three quick passes between a couple of sacks.

Quick completion to Allen Lazard

Saleh was quite livid at his team and urged them to take their game up a notch after the game versus the Panthers, as seen in the latest episode of “Hard Knocks” this week.

The coach was frustrated and claimed that there was absolutely no reason to believe this team had changed for the better after watching them struggle so mightily to keep their quarterback safe.

The Jets flirted with a playoff berth last season but eventually failed to get the job done, and even though having Rodgers and Dalvin Cook now on the team should help them get much better, there’s only so much they can do behind such a shaky offensive line.

The clock is ticking, and the front office might need to make some moves if they don’t want this promising season to go to waste.
