To say that Nathaniel Hackett’s tenure in charge of the Denver Broncos was bad would be a huge understatement.

Poor clock management, play-calling issues, and a lack of proper planning, plus countless off-field storylines, eventually forced the team’s hand to cut ties with him mid-season.

Some thought they only hired him to get Aaron Rodgers as well, but that wasn’t the case.

Then, the New York Jets didn’t hesitate to bring him in, knowing that they would go all-in on Rodgers.

Fast forward to today, and they might be having second thoughts about that move.

According to a report by Connor Hughes, the Jets have serious concerns about Hackett (via Jets Videos).

The Jets made “legitimate attempts this offseason to hire someone who would, essentially, replace Nathaniel Hackett,” per @Connor_J_Hughes:

The report mentions several instances in which Hackett called a play, and then Rodgers changed it entirely at the line of scrimmage.

Now, they’re worried that Rodgers might not be able to handle all of Hackett’s work on top of his.

They reportedly wanted to hire someone “above” the offensive coordinator to make sure to keep him in check and correct his wrongdoings, but to no avail.

Hackett is one of Rodgers’ closest friends, and they have found plenty of success together in the past.

Then again, he did leave a lot to be desired in the past couple of years, so it makes sense that they want to keep him on a short leash.

The Jets are going to go for the big prize this season, and they cannot afford anyone to set them back.
