The offensive line was a major issue for the New York Jets last season, as they gave up a brutal 64 sacks and watched their franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers go down in the backfield due to a torn Achilles just four plays into his debut season in New York.

Patching up the line has obviously been a major focus for the Jets this offseason, and they have done a great job by signing left tackle Tyron Smith from the Dallas Cowboys, trading for Morgan Moses of the Baltimore Ravens to play right tackle, and signing John Simpson from the Ravens to play left guard.

The work isn’t stopping there since Smith is on just a one-year deal, as Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz has reported the Jets are hosting Washington left tackle Troy Fautanu for a visit tomorrow.

Washington LT Troy Fautanu visits the #Jets tomorrow.

One of the draft’s risers, Fautanu’s versatility and athleticism are two key reasons why his stock has been elevated. He allowed just three sacks during his collegiate career on 1,255 pass-blocking snaps, per PFF. https://t.co/d4EMBe93mt

Fautanu allowed just three sacks in college on 1,255 pass-blocking snaps and has seen his draft stock rise rapidly over the past couple of months due to his versatility and athleticism, according to Schultz.

This is a strong OT class with Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, Penn State’s Olu Fashanu, Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga, and Alabama’s JC Latham all projecting to go off the board near the top of the first round alongside Fautanu.

The Jets have the 10th pick in the draft and Smith is on a prove-it contract due to his extensive injury history over the past few seasons, meaning it’s not too early to look for his eventual predecessor.

Fautanu learning behind Smith for a year and perhaps starting a few games in his place would be an excellent situation for him.
