The New York Jets fanbase felt like they were up a creek without a paddle when Aaron Rodgers got hurt in their season opener.

Rodgers was supposed to save this team from the pits of despair, bringing them to the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.

Zach Wilson was deemed not good enough to lead this team, which is why they brought Rodgers in to begin with.

However, Wilson’s play as of late has elicited a strong response from some of his teammates, including Allen Lazard.

Lazard recently spoke in a clip shared by Jets Videos, saying that Wilson has “grown week to week.”

Allen Lazard was asked about the progression of Zach Wilson:

“It’s grown week to week. There’s a lot on Zach’s plate every single week. But obviously, there’s still a lot of room to grow” pic.twitter.com/gTTxyP1pBT

Wilson might not be performing to MVP levels yet, but it seems like he is starting to win over some of his teammates.

Lazard continued to recognize the fact that Wilson is growing and changing, but also acknowledged, “Obviously, there’s still a lot of room to grow.”

Wilson has mitigated turnovers compared to his past two seasons, throwing just five interceptions on the season.

If he can keep this pace up through the rest of the year, the Jets could stay in playoff contention.

Rodgers has continued to say that he is gearing up to return in the last weeks of the season.

If that plan comes to fruition, and the Jets can stay afloat, a franchise-altering playoff berth might not be out of the question.

With upcoming games against the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, Wilson’s Jets have their work cut out for them.
