When Jim Harbaugh first became a head coach in the NFL, he was in charge of guiding the San Francisco 49ers for four seasons (2011-2014).
During that stretch, he led the 49ers to 11+ wins three times and helped them earn a Super Bowl appearance during the 2012 season.
A lot of that success had to do with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who played for Harbaugh during his four seasons as head coach.
Now, according to USA Today Sports, Harbaugh wants Kaepernick on his coaching staff with the Los Angeles Chargers.
“Yeah, we talked a little about it,” Harbaugh said. “He’s considering it. He was out of the country.”
Again, Harbaugh and Kaepernick have a strong history together.
They made three consecutive NFC Championship appearances (2011-2013) in addition to that aforementioned Super Bowl, but Kaepernick didn’t fully take over as the starter until 2012.
Harbaugh helped the former Nevada quarterback discover his dual-threat abilities at the NFL level by unleashing him on the rest of the league after he took over for Alex Smith.
Between 2012 and 2014, Kaepernick rushed for over 1,500 yards, and he threw for over 3,000 yards in the two latter seasons.
His experience playing winning football and being able to cause trouble for opposing defenses could be useful for a current star quarterback like Justin Herbert.
In general, it could be nice to see Kaepernick back in the league after the 36-year-old was seemingly exiled from the league due to his political and off-the-field stances.
Now that plenty of time has passed, could fans soon see the former second-round pick back in the league?
