Jim Schwartz Gets Honest About Playoff Loss To Texans

Despite some rotten injury luck throughout the 2023 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns managed to somehow eek into the Wild Card round of the 2024 NFL playoffs.

The Browns lost key members of their offense in Deshaun Watson and Nick Chubb, while the defense was also tagged with injuries to rotational players.

Still, head coach Kevin Stefanski and his staff were able to optimize the talent left on the roster to make a late-season push toward the postseason.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, they ran into an up-and-coming Houston Texans team led by C.J. Stroud that thoroughly outplayed them on both sides of the field.

Several months after the loss, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz reflected on the game, via Coral Smith of NFL.com.

“We put a big emphasis on making plays and being aggressive. And my biggest takeaway from that was we chased plays in that game, right? Instead of letting the plays come to us and making the plays that were there,” Schwartz said.

After Cleveland went down big, it looked like the defense was trying to make up the deficit by going for the home-run defensive play instead of playing their normal style of disciplined football.

It was a tough situation for the Browns and Schwartz who were playing from behind almost immediately though it can now serve as a good reminder not to press despite what the scoreboard says.

With a healthier roster and better luck, Cleveland should be in line for another postseason appearance and Schwartz’s unit will play a key role in getting back there.
