All summer long, it seemed as though superstar guard Damian Lillard was destined to suit up for the Miami Heat for the 2023-24 NBA season to play alongside fellow stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the Portland Trail Blazers were reluctant to make a deal with the Heat and elected to go with a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks instead.

Lillard will now be playing alongside superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo for the foreseeable future, which obviously didn’t sit well with the Heat and their star players, especially Butler, who isn’t fond of new Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin.

On Wednesday, Butler was asked if he was disappointed about the Heat being unable to trade for Lillard or Jrue Holiday, who ultimately landed with the Boston Celtics.

Although Butler is happy for Lillard and Holiday, he’s not thrilled about Griffin getting to coach his friend in Milwaukee, via Wes Goldberg of All U Can Heat.

Butler definitely seems like someone who holds a grudge, as he said that his dislike for Griffin goes all the way to when he was with the Chicago Bulls.

The veteran hasn’t played for the Bulls since the 2016-17 NBA season, which means this beef with Griffin has been brewing for quite some time, and it doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

With Butler and company having an axe to grind during the upcoming season, it’ll be interesting to see how the regular-season matchups with the Bucks go and if there’s some bad blood that boils over.
