Regardless of whether the Miami Heat win the NBA Finals this year, star forward Jimmy Butler has cemented his legacy as one of the best players of his generation and a potential Hall of Famer once he decides to walk away from the game.
Butler has accomplished enough in his career that he’d be in the conversation for the Hall of Fame without much debate, but it appears he isn’t all that bothered with the distinction of being a Hall of Famer.
In a recent interview via NBA TV, Butler was asked about potentially making it to the Hall of Fame someday and gave a response you would expect from the veteran forward.
Jimmy Butler says if he’s ever elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, he won’t attend the ceremony.

It’s one thing to say that you don’t care about being selected to be a Hall of Famer, but it is another thing entirely to say that you wouldn’t even attend the ceremony where you’d be honored for what you’ve accomplished during your basketball career.
Butler does his own thing and doesn’t follow the status quo when it comes to things like this and, frankly, doesn’t seem to like the attention given in these events, which is understandable, especially after seeing how Tim Duncan handled his induction.
However, if his career ended tomorrow due to injury or by choice, Butler would likely get a call when eligible, just like Dwyane Wade did.
Although Butler is saying all of this now, it’ll be interesting to see if he changes his tune after a few years of being retired and receiving the honor of being a Hall of Famer.
