The Dallas Mavericks found a true gem in Luka Doncic, but they had failed to put a solid team around him.

It’s not like they didn’t have good players; it’s that they weren’t the best fit around Doncic.

But they’ve been quite active in the offseason and revamped their roster, adding tough-minded defenders, lob-threats, and rounding out that squad around him and Kyrie Irving.

That’s why former NBA star J.J. Redick believes Doncic is primed for an outstanding season, as this is the first time he’s going to have a team that actually makes sense.

Redick also talked about this being the first time in Doncic’s career that he’s actually started taking shots from the media and the fans.

Fans called him out for being out of shape, compared him to Trae Young, criticized him for constantly complaining to the referees, and looked unimpressed by his numbers because his team didn’t even make the playoffs.

But Doncic and Slovenia will play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, so he’s likely to get to training camp in great physical shape, and Redick claims he actually looks quite slim in all the pics and videos he’s recently seen of him.

Redick explained that he’s never going to be as jacked as Giannis Antetokounmpo but took notice of Doncic’s competitive spirit and how he’s definitely keeping tabs on all the criticism.

Doncic is one of the most talented players in the league and could be a perennial MVP candidate, and it’ll be nice to see how he handles pressure now that the clock seems to be ticking on him.
