With the Los Angeles Lakers still looking for a new coach, it seems like they’re officially running out of options.
That’s why they might have to turn to a rookie for their vacancy.
According to a report by Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, JJ Redick has completed his formal interview for the Lakers coaching job (via Evan Sidery).
Apparently, he’s been in touch with Lakers GM Rob Pelinka ever since they parted ways with Darvin Ham.

For weeks, reports stated that Redick was the frontrunner for the job, with James Borrego also being in consideration.
Then, out of the blue, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that UConn’s Dan Hurley was the actual primary choice for the Lakers.
Hurley ended up turning down a huge contract extension and decided to stay with the Huskies, and with the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly zeroing in on Borrego, the Lakers didn’t have many choices left.
Redick is a knowledgeable figure and a renowned analyst, not to mention a well-respected NBA veteran.
However, as intelligent and prepared as he is as an analyst, there are major concerns about him as a first-time coach.
First, we find the obvious, as the fact that he has no coaching experience whatsoever is a factor to consider.
Then, the fact that he just started a podcast with LeBron James could raise some eyebrows, not only because it could be another testament to LeBron’s excessive leverage and power within the organization but also because it could raise questions about Redick’s actual authority in the locker room.
