JJ Redick has officially started his tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and is ready to get the team back on track.
He was introduced to the press and loyal Lakers fans on Monday and made it clear that he already has plans to change things for the franchise.
Speaking to ESPN Los Angeles, Redick talked about Anthony Davis and the Lakers’ defense.
Calling Davis “a top five defensive player,” Redick said that the team should also have one of the best defenses in the entire league
That’s a lofty goal but can Redick make it happen?

Several years ago, the Lakers did indeed have a defense that stopped just about every other team and it led to them winning their latest championship.
Since then, things have changed for Los Angeles and their defense has been consistently criticized.
At the same time, the praise for Davis has continued and in fact, he just had one of his best seasons ever.
The Lakers clearly need to do more to give Davis support so there are several strong defensive components working at once.
The team has added a few other talented big men over the last several seasons but injuries and mismanagement haven’t allowed them to thrive.
What is Redick going to do to make sure the Lakers are able to get stops, blocks, rebounds, and more?
This is probably one of the biggest tasks that he is facing as he starts his time as the team’s head coach.
There are many changes that need to be made for the Lakers but defense is likely at the top of the list.
