The Los Angeles Lakers have had an eventful offseason, hiring LeBron James’ podcast partner JJ Redick as the team’s head coach and drafting his son, Bronny James, to be his new teammate.

Drafting Bronny has been controversial and unprecedented, and Redick recently spoke about the situation during Bronny’s introductory press conference alongside fellow rookie and No. 17 overall pick Dalton Knecht.

Redick reiterated that “Bronny has earned this through hard work…his base level of feel, athleticism, point-of-attack defender, shooting passing, there’s a lot to like about his game” and added that he’s “going to have an opportunity to become an excellent NBA player.”

Redick wasn’t shy about hyping Bronny up and shed light on the team’s player development, and he believes Bronny has a lot of the tools they look for when developing up-and-coming talent.

Bronny was taken 55th overall after averaging just 4.8 points per game in his one season with USC, and many have knocked the franchise for its methods that led to this point, criticizing the nepotism and favoritism involved in getting Bronny to LA.

He had a tremendous showing at the NBA Combine, which is likely what intrigued teams and solidified Bronny as a prospect.

For a guy who has already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in basketball, LeBron was not shy about his desire to play alongside his son before he hung up his sneakers.

He will now get the chance to do that, and it will be fun to see if Bronny really can develop into something alongside his dad.
