The Los Angeles Chargers used the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on tackle Joe Alt out of Notre Dame, and he’ll immediately step in as a major cog in this offense for new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Living in Los Angeles is certainly going to be an adjustment for Alt, who was born and raised in Minnesota and played college at Notre Dame, and he recently revealed what has surprised him most about living in LA.

On a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Alt told Kay Adams that the prices and the transportation have been major adjustments, joking “I’m used to five miles taking five minutes, not 25-30 minutes.” and adding “Rent was a little bit, that was a little interesting” when discussing the outrageous rent prices in LA compared to the Midwest.

Alt will be pivoting to right tackle this year and if Harbaugh carries over the style he implemented at Michigan and as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers back in the day, this offense is about to get a lot more physical and a lot more run-heavy, so Alt better be ready to spend a bunch of money on eggs to stay ready.

Keeping quarterback Justin Herbert healthy after he missed four games last year is of utmost importance, as his sack rate has begun increasing slightly year over year, and drafting Alt was the best possible move to solve that problem.

Luckily for Alt, he received a $20.9 million signing bonus for being drafted fifth overall, so being able to afford proper transportation and a few cartons of eggs in LA shouldn’t be too tough on him.
