The Cincinnati Bengals are a Super Bowl contender when Joe Burrow is on the field and a fringe playoff team when he’s not — at best.

He’s one of the best and most impactful players in the game, but with two season-ending injuries before turning 28, he’s officially been deemed as an injury-prone player.

Even he has reportedly started second-guessing his longevity.

In his latest media availability, he admitted that he had thoughts about his ‘football mortality’ upon his wrist injury (via Around the NFL).

“Whenever the injuries start to stack up, your football mortality kind of comes into the back of your mind,” Burrow said following mandatory minicamp practice. “So that’s definitely something I’ve thought about and something I have had to fight through.”

Burrow wasn’t able to finish his rookie season after the Bengals’ offensive line collapsed, leading to a gruesome injury.

Then, he led the team to the Super Bowl in the very next season, which was his first full campaign in the league.

That’s the kind of generational player we’re talking about.

Nonetheless, being available is a major part of the job, and he’ll have to find a way to stay on the field if he wants to fulfill his legacy and potential.

The Bengals play in one of the toughest and most physical divisions in all of football, and opposing teams will game-plan to try and stop him every single week.

Burrow continues to rehab his wrist but is expected to be back to full strength and back on the field by the start of the season.

Hopefully, he won’t have the fear of injury looming in the back of his head on every drop-back, as players who play in fear often get hurt.
