Over the last couple of years, Joe Burrow has become one of the very best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he has taken the long-suffering Cincinnati Bengals to two AFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl.
This season could be an immense opportunity for them to finally win their first world championship, especially after star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster left the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
However, he will be sidelined for a while after suffering a calf strain on Thursday.
It will result in him once again not being able to participate in a full NFL training camp, as Mike Garafolo pointed out.
Joe Burrow told reporters yesterday he was looking forward to extended preseason action for the first time:
2020: COVID, no games
2021: Returning from ACL, 3 snaps
2022: Appendix rupture, no action
2023: Calf strain, ???

Burrow was having a fairly solid rookie campaign in 2020 when he suffered a severe knee injury at midseason, and it cost him almost all of the following season’s training camp.
He bounced back well, earning the Comeback Player of the Year award while taking the Bengals to the big game for the first time since the 1988 season.
There, they led for most of the second half, but a late touchdown by Cooper Kupp resulted in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
This season, Cincinnati has added Orlando Brown Jr., a star offensive tackle who won it all with Kansas City last year, while wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are a year older and wiser.
Job one for the team right now is to get Burrow fully healthy, especially since calf strains can be slow to heal and possibly lead to more serious injuries.
