Jason Kidd is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in NBA history.

He was a pure point guard, a cerebral puppeteer who would dissect opposing defenses and pick them apart methodically, especially in the clutch.

And while he left some to be desired as a coach earlier in his career, it seems like he’s finally found the same approach now that he’s on the sidelines.

That’s why the Boston Celtics’ head coach tipped his hat to him ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals vs. the Dallas Mavericks.

Joe Mazzulla praised Kidd, stating that they have actually studied their concepts and late-game execution (via NBA).

“He’s a great coach… they’re one of the teams we study a lot in late game situations and the concepts they do”

Kidd has full control of his locker room.

He’s got an extension of himself in Kyrie Irving, and you can tell that the players would run through a brick wall for him.

The Mavs are hard-nosed and never seem to crumble under pressure, not even when they’re down late in games.

They play stout team defense, and he’s even gotten Kyrie and Luka Doncic to try hard on that end of the floor.

Kidd has also made some sound adjustments during the playoffs, and he deserves plenty of credit for the way this team was able to get past three elite rivals to get to this point.

Mazzulla is also a great game-planer, and while he’s not nearly as good when it comes to making in-game tweaks, this should be a very interesting chess match between two outstanding tacticians.
