With 55 regular-season games in the books for the Boston Celtics, the 17-time NBA champions are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with a league-best record of 43-12.
Although there are still 27 games left to be played in the regular season, the Celtics look like the best all-around team in the league right now, with a great chance of winning it all at season’s end.
Despite the team’s success and many anticipating Boston being the East representative in the NBA Finals, superstar forward Jayson Tatum isn’t getting a lot of buzz for NBA MVP, with other players around the league like Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic having a better chance of winning the regular-season award.
Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla thinks that Tatum isn’t getting enough recognition for what he’s done for the team this season and deserves to be in the NBA MVP conversation, via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston.
“I think he’s doing a great job of reshaping what it means to be the best player,” Mazzulla said.

With a few more weeks left in the regular season, Tatum has an opportunity to change the narrative and potentially be mentioned in the same breath as Jokic, Gilgeous-Alexander, and Doncic.
However, it may be a little too late to get into the MVP conversation unless he has some big scoring performances or hits some clutch shots, as Jokic could be well on his way to a third MVP award.
Even though Jokic may be the frontrunner right now, Tatum would almost certainly prefer to win a Larry O’Brien Trophy instead, and the Celtics have a great chance of doing that this year.
