The Philadelphia 76ers had sky-high expectations when they drafted Joel Embiid third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Despite battling many injuries to begin his career, Embiid has exceeded all expectations.

His 2023 season was legendary.

Embiid played in 66 games and averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

This is his second straight-scoring title, and he should be well on his way to winning the league MVP.

But this season also put Embiid into elite historical company.

He is only the fifth player ever to average 33+ points and 10+ rebounds in a season.

If this season is not MVP-worthy, Embiid may never win.

He has finished second in each of the past two seasons, and hopes to not make it three in a row.

But, while winning the MVP would be great, Embiid has larger goals.

The 28-year-old has never made a conference final in his career.

This season might be the Sixers’ best chance to make a deep run.

Embiid is quickly becoming one of the great centers in the history of the game.

But, winning a championship remains a very important part of the equation.

The 76ers will need a dominant postseason from Embiid.

Also, his sidekick James Harden will have to knock off some postseason demons of his own.

Their 54 wins this season were the most since 2000-01, a year they lost in the NBA Finals.

The Sixers are hoping for a different outcome this time around.
