The Philadelphia 76ers have started the year at an incredible pace.

They are 8-1 through nine games, giving them the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Joel Embiid, the reigning league MVP, has looked the part thus far, a big reason for the 76ers’ early success.

He’s not the only player on this team to contribute in a big way.

Tyrese Maxey has started to develop into a key cog of this team, something Embiid has taken notice of.

Embiid recently posted a photo of him and Maxey on Twitter, calling him “The Franchise.”

Maxey might not have been a part of the initial “Trust the Process” movement, but he has integrated smoothly into this team.

After Ben Simmons left, the team wanted a number two player they could rely on alongside Embiid.

It appears that Maxey has not only filled that role but outpaced any expectations that were placed upon him when the season started.

Maxey is averaging 28.6 points per game on the season, the ninth-best mark in the NBA thus far.

He has also averaged 7.2 assists per game, which is tenth-best in the league.

If Maxey and Embiid can keep up this pace throughout the season, they will continue to be one of the best teams in the East.

This is shaping up to be a great conference given the dominant starts of the 76ers, Boston Celtics, and Indiana Pacers, among others.

It will be interesting to see who makes it through to the NBA Finals after a long season of back-and-forth.
