The Milwaukee Brewers have found themselves back at the top of the NL Central after a come-from-behind win over the New York Mets at Citi Field on Monday night.

They entered the game just a half-game back of the upstart Cincinnati Reds.

Milwaukee fell into a 1-0 hole in the fourth inning and they weren’t able to solve Justin Verlander.

However, rookie Joey Wiemer helped pick them up off the mat in the sixth when he clobbered a go-ahead two-run homer off of right-hander Drew Smith.

That ultimately proved to be the difference in the game as the Brewers held on for a 2-1 victory.

On Twitter, the team posted the video of Wiemer’s go-ahead home run.

The ball bounced off of the apple just beyond the center field wall as the Brewers stunned the crowd in New York.

It also proved to be enough for right-hander Colin Rea to earn his fourth win of the year, as he gave the Brew Crew 6.1 innings of work and allowed just one run on three hits while fanning three.

But Wiemer has been a key piece for the Brewers this season.

His batting average sits at just .214, but his power numbers have been quite impressive.

The 24-year-old’s blast against the Mets was his 11th of the season and it proved to be enough for the Brewers to overcome the slumping Mets.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Wiemer was drafted by the Brewers in the fourth round back in 2020.

He made his debut on April 1 this season.
