Brandon Aiyuk’s contract situation with the San Francisco 49ers has been the longest-running soap opera this of this NFL offseason, as every day there is a new development that leaves fans even more perplexed about what is going on.

General manager John Lynch finally spoke up about the situation and revealed his thoughts on the ordeal.

The former NFL defensive back was asked if there was any bad blood between the team and Aiyuk as a result of this saga.

“There’s no bad blood,” Lynch said, via KNBR. “Negotiations can get heated, I think it’s his first time going through that, but no bad blood. … There’s a lot of love and respect for the relationship we’ve had and hopefully will have into the future.”

That’s a good sign that things are heading toward some sort of resolution before Week 1, as the pendulum has appeared to have swung back in the Niners’ favor over the past week.

Many recent reports indicated that a trade was imminent, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns all heavily involved in both trade discussions and contract negotiations.

San Francisco now has the most salary cap space in the NFL after some creative maneuvering this offseason, and using some of that on Brock Purdy’s favorite target would be a wise decision.

The Niners need to get this distraction out of the way as soon as possible and get things back on track to avenge last season’s Super Bowl defeat.
