The modern NBA has placed a much larger emphasis on scoring and pace and space, a large departure from the 90s and 2000s version of the league that was predicated on defense and post play.

Older and former players have lamented the stylistic change in the league, though the NBA isn’t complaining as basketball’s popularity has never been higher.

High-scoring games and large offensive performances are all the rage today as fans constantly consume basketball content.

Young stars like Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Anthony Edwards are capable of exploding on any given night and the trio has put up some of the NBA’s most impressive scoring outings this season.

While fans are enjoying all the scoring, former players like John Wall called the current situation out, via “The OGs Show” and NBACentral.

“Nobody is playing defense,” Wall said.

In the clip, Wall admits it’s hard for him to watch NBA games because they remind him more of pickup games where there’s almost no defense being played.

Wall also adds that he is observing too much one-on-one and trading buckets, a valid critique given the propensity of some stars to hijack the offense in crucial situations.

During his prime, Wall was an eager defender at the point of attack and relished the opportunity to guard opposing players.

Today’s NBA doesn’t feature many players wired the same way, an unfortunate development considering how exciting defensive games can be.

Unfortunately for fans of the older style of play, it seems that the scoring focus is here to stay and people will just need to adapt.
