During his short and complicated stint with the Cleveland Browns, star wide receiver Josh Gordon was considered to be one of the best players in the game at his position.

Unfortunately, Gordon couldn’t keep himself out of trouble, as he was always at odds with the league and getting suspended left and right for violations, which essentially derailed his NFL career.

Even though Gordon was given a few second-chance opportunities in the league as he played with the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tennessee Titans, he was never able to get back to elite status and became a cautionary tale, much like his Browns teammate Johnny Manziel.

On the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Manziel talked about his friend Gordon and how they were both struggling with similar issues throughout their time in the league.

“I saw a side of Josh that the rest of the world didn’t get to see… He struggled with many of the same things I struggled with,” Manziel said. “And I tried my best throughout those times to be a better influence around Josh.”

Even though it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Gordon makes an NFL comeback, his career has come to a standstill, with the talented wide receiver catching 252 passes for 4,284 and 21 touchdowns during his playing days in the league.

It just goes to show that even with elite skills and talent, a player’s career can still be derailed by other things, as off-the-field problems can lead to failed expectations.
