The Denver Broncos are going through another transition period with the team hoping to right the ship during the 2024 NFL season in order to give head coach Sean Payton the ideal squad to become a force to be reckoned with in the AFC once again.
Although the bulk of the attention in Denver is about the quarterback situation and the team moving on from veteran Russell Wilson and bringing in rookie Bo Nix, the Broncos still have a formidable defense, with elite cornerback Patrick Surtain II leading the way on that side of the football.
Despite the Broncos defense not getting much credit over the past few years, especially after giving up 70 points on the road to Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins early last season, Denver might turn some heads this year, as it could be a bounce-back season.
At a recent joint practice, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love gave Surtain the ultimate compliment, as he knows how much he means to the Broncos defense and what kind of a game-changer he can be.
“I think Pat Surtain is a really good player,” Love said, via Matt Schuneidman of The Athletic. “That always stands out when you go against a really good DB like him. I think he’s kind of the heart and soul of that defense. He’s a lockdown corner over there.”

With the Broncos intent on turning things around, they will heavily lean on Surtain to be the undisputed leader on defense while Payton tries to sort out the offense and determine whether Nix is the right man for the starting job under center right out of the gate.
The Broncos’ 2024 campaign will begin on Sept. 8 when they play at the Seattle Seahawks.
