The Washington Wizards didn’t hesitate to trade for a promising player like Jordan Poole, who had shown glimpses of great scoring ability with the Golden State Warriors.
Poole’s contributions to the Warriors’ latest championship win didn’t go unnoticed, as the team signed him to a big contract with the hope that he could become Stephen Curry’s successor.
Then, reports state that his ego got in the way, and after a well-known altercation with Draymond Green, he seemingly refused to be coached or held accountable, up to the point where the team simply decided to cut ties with him altogether.
Poole was now expected to lead the way for the Wizards, but he’s struggled mightily since the beginning of the season.
Per him, however, it all has to do with all the new coverages he’s facing, as he’s now the focal point of the offense and is on top of the scouting report (via Chase DC Sports and NBA Central).

Of course, Poole figures to be the Wizards’ best offensive threat, so it’s not surprising to see that other teams are trying to take his strengths away from him.
Then again, he’s averaging fewer shots now than he did during his days with the Warriors, so it’s not like his usage has gone up by any means.
Poole doesn’t look like the All-Star-caliber player the Wizards thought they were getting with him.
Still, he claims this new role will allow him to grow because he has to watch a lot of film on the coverage he gets, so perhaps he just needs some more time to adjust.
