The St. Louis Cardinals have had a very difficult season this year.
After 69 games, they own a record of 27-42.
That’s the worst record in the National League.
However, rookie Jordan Walker has been a bright spot for the struggling team.
Since being recalled from Triple-A Memphis, Walker has been swinging a hot bat.
In his last game, he picked up two hits against the San Francisco Giants.
His demotion in April came as a surprise to many.
However, Walker kept a positive attitude and did his best to work through his issues.
On Twitter, John Denton of MLB.com revealed what Walker said about the things that kept him motivated.
#STLCards rookie Jordan Walker on his late-April demotion & his MLB return: “It did hit me hard a little bit but I still was joking around with my teammates & having a good time. Baseball wasn’t as fun, obviously, but it’s still a joy to be on the field.”https://t.co/39uwsXxJaP

Walker himself was shocked by the demotion, particularly because he had begun his career with a 12-game hitting streak and was hitting .274.
However, on April 26, he was sent down.
But Walker never lost concentration or motivation.
He said that it wasn’t quite as fun in the minor leagues after such a hot start to his big-league career.
The demotion caught him off guard, but he says that he was still able to joke around and have fun with his teammates down in Memphis.
Being out on the field also still brought him joy and kept him motivated.
And since his return, Walker has been providing St. Louis with a spark offensively.
The team is 15 games below .500, but Walker has certainly ignited hope for the future.
In fact, he was ranked as the top prospect in all of baseball back in May.
