The Oklahoma City Thunder recently traded former No. 6 overall pick Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls for Alex Caruso, a move that was to be expected after Giddey fell mostly out of the rotation during the team’s playoff run last month.
Caruso is a better fit with the Thunder’s roster, and Giddey now has a chance to take on an increased role with a rebuilding team, and the new Bull made his thoughts clear on his new role in his introductory press conference.
Giddey was asked about coming off the bench for OKC next season and said “it wasn’t something I was overly eager to do” and said he told OKC’s front office that as well, which resulted in both parties working together to get Giddey to a good spot for the next chapter of his career.

It was a mature approach from Giddey, and he appears excited about his new team and a new role where he will be able to take on more of a leadership and ball-dominant role as he did a few years ago with the Thunder before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams blossomed into stars.
Giddey will join Coby White to form a young and exciting backcourt, and the team still has a lot to do this offseason in terms of figuring out it’s immediate future.
Zach LaVine’s name is all over the place in trade rumors, and it’s unclear what DeMar DeRozan’s future looks like in Chicago as well.
Instead of continuing to wallow in mediocrity and fight for a spot in the Play-In Tournament, the Bulls would be better off handing the keys to White and Giddey and kicking off a youth movement.
