San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has a reputation for being something of a prickly person but he has always stood up and fought hard on behalf of his team.
Josh Richardson gave a good example of that on “The OGs Show.”
Per the show (via Courtside Buzz), Richardson said that Popovich has a rule that if he sees any Spurs players out at dinner on a road trip, he automatically pays for their meal.
Richardson said he was out with Gorgui Dieng and Keldon Johnson one night and when Dieng saw Popovich walk into the restaurant, he yelled, “Hell yeah!”

Popovich has been leading the Spurs since the 1996–97 season, when he turned the fate of the team around and transformed them into an NBA dynasty.
Since then, he and his team have earned five championships and Popovich has been named Coach of the Month and Coach of the Year multiple times.
He is now considered perhaps the greatest basketball mind of all time.
Through it all, Popovich has never been one to jump at a chance to give an interview or interact with the media.
But acts like this prove he’s a very caring, sweet guy, he just has a public persona that he likes to showcase to the press.
There has been a lot of speculation about Popovich over the last few years, with many people wondering when he will retire.
When the Spurs earned Victor Wembanyama in the last draft, it injected a huge boost of energy into the franchise and gave Popovich another reason to stick around, even though he’s now 75 years old.
Popovich obviously cares about the NBA and his team, and this story from Richardson proves it.
