The New England Patriots have struggled to find a quarterback replacement for Tom Brady since he left the team.
Brady, of course, is not only a legend of the organization but one of the best quarterbacks in league history.
Replacing him wasn’t supposed to be easy, but the Patriots have gone through a lot to try and fill this void.
Cam Newton didn’t work out as well as they hoped for, and Mac Jones’ time with the organization was mostly disappointing.
They drafted Drake Maye this season with the expectation that he could inject some life into their quarterback room, but early returns weren’t all promising.
Many reports came out about Maye struggling in training camp, and having a difficult time adjusting to the NFL.
However, it might have just taken him a few weeks to get his feet wet, because he looked like a different player in their final preseason game.
Maye completed 13 of 20 passes when he was in the game, throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown.
The internet was talking about Maye’s performance, causing Julian Edelman to tweet, “Maye looking real composed out there.”

This performance was in the preseason, so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
But, if Maye could show this level of growth and maturity in a few weeks, it could indicate what he’s capable of throughout a season.
The Patriots have to make a decision about their Week 1 starter soon, and at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Maye listed as QB1.
