Today’s NBA is spectacular for many reasons, but nothing is perfect.

One could argue that there’s never been as much talent as there is today.

On the flip side, there had never been more superstars running away from their teams than there are today as well.

Back in the day, some guys only tried to win a ring with one or two teams.

Nowadays, stars will bounce around from team to team to pursue championships.

That’s why NBA legend Julius ‘Dr. J’ Erving put Kevin Durant on blast for all the times he’s forced his way out of teams and created Superteams (via Joy De’Angela).

Of course, this is a business, and it’s only natural that an employee does whatever’s best for his career.

One wouldn’t turn down the chance to get into a better financial position just to stay loyal to a company; we get that.

The only difference is that we’re not making $40 million a year to play basketball, so maybe the situations aren’t exactly comparable.

Players forcing their way out of teams will only hurt them at some point, as owners will have literally no incentive to sign them to big deals if they’re going to walk away anyway.

And while Superteams are definitely fun to watch and whatnot, watching guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Dirk Nowitzki stay with their teams and win a championship feels better.
