The New York Mets were busy over the winter, with one of their biggest acquisitions being the signing of reigning American League Cy Young Justin Verlander, who posted a 1.84 ERA with the Houston Astros last season.

This year, the 40-year-old has had a successful season, but not to the degree of his Cy Young campaign a year ago.

He is 3-5 in 13 starts with an ERA of 3.72.

The Mets themselves have not had a good season.

They own a record of 44-50 with the trade deadline less than two weeks away.

With the Mets set up to potentially sell, there have been rumors circulating that the veteran right-hander could be on the move.

However, Verlander is paying it no mind, and says that he is fully committed to the Mets this year, via The Athletic.

New York is 17.5 games back of first place in the NL East and eight games back in the Wild Card race.

Though they have played better baseball as of late, they still are well out of postseason contention.

However, it appears that Verlander isn’t paying any mind to trade rumors or speculation that he may be on the move in the coming weeks.

Instead, he is focused on helping the Mets recover from a tough start and get back into postseason contention.

The Mets won 101 games last season and secured the top Wild Card spot in the National League before being eliminated by the San Diego Padres.

This season hasn’t been quite as successful, but Verlander has made it clear that his goal is to help the Mets win.
