The Minnesota Timberwolves are back in the Western Conference Finals.

May 19th should be a bit of a Holiday for Timberwolves fans, as it’s not only Kevin Garnett’s birthday, but it also marks the date of the two times they’ve clinched a spot in that stage.

That’s why, following the game, Karl-Anthony Towns gave Garnett a shoutout, stating that they had given him a big birthday present and talking about how special it was to honor such a franchise legend like him (via NBA).

“Happy Birthday, KG… here’s your present from all of us.”

Of course, this time, the Timberwolves will want to have a better outcome than they had two decades ago when Garnett and company failed to get to the biggest stage.

That year, they had to go against the biggest and strongest juggernaut in the game, facing off with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

The Los Angeles Lakers got the best of them to advance to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Detroit Pistons in one of the biggest upsets in NBA history.

Garnett and the Timberwolves couldn’t get back to this stage again, with the legendary big man eventually taking his talents to the Eastern Conference to play for the Boston Celtics.

There, he made it to a couple of NBA Finals and even secured an NBA championship.

Now, it’ll be up to Anthony Edwards to prove that he can be the greatest player in franchise history, even more than the guy who put them on the map and paved the way for this to happen.
