Ever since signing superstar forward Kawhi Leonard in NBA free agency and trading for Paul George, the Los Angeles Clippers haven’t been able to put everything together and make a true run at contending for an NBA title.
There’s no doubt the Clippers have been one of the most talented teams on paper for the last few years, with Leonard and George leading the charge, but these two superstars haven’t been able to stay healthy, leaving the team helpless at times during the playoffs.
Heading into the 2023-24 NBA season, expectations are low for the first time since Leonard joined the team because the Clippers have proven time and time again that they can’t live up to those high expectations.
Leonard recently spoke about what went wrong last season as he admits he and the team skipped some steps in getting him back to full strength, which proved to be costly via Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.
“Last Year, I think everybody was a little excited just by me coming back..We skipped some steps, I would say. That’s on all of us in here.” Leonard said.
“Last year, I think everybody was a little excited just by me coming back… We skipped some steps, I would say. That’s on all of us in here. The front office, me included, and the coaching staff. I think now, we see what we got.”

Even though it’s always difficult to see Leonard’s excitement level and enthusiasm, as he’s not one to show any emotion while on camera, the Clippers do have a chance to right the ship this season while flying under the radar in the Western Conference.
Obviously, the key to the team’s success during the upcoming season will be their stars being able to stay healthy, which clearly hasn’t been easy over the last few years and likely won’t get easier with both players being a bit older.
However, this team can’t be counted out, as it still has the talent to make some noise in the West.
