Julio Rodriguez had a weekend to remember.
The Seattle Mariners star set an important record, recording 18 hits in just a five-game span, which ties him for the second-most in such a stretch since Jimmy Johnston had 19 hits in five games back in 1923.
Rodriguez’s hot stretch ultimately made him the unanimous choice for the American League Player of the Week award.
The reigning Rookie of the Year is hitting .278 with 21 home runs and 79 RBI.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic recently discussed Rodriguez’s hot stretch and what makes him one of the most dynamic young players in the entire league, via “Foul Territory” on Twitter.

Rodriguez had previously set a record of 17 hits in four games.
Rosenthal discussed what Rodriguez was able to do over the weekend.
In each of those four games leading up to Sunday, he recorded at least four hits.
In the first game, he went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and two stolen bases.
In the second game, Rodriguez was 5-for-5 was a home run, a double, and five RBI.
He recorded four hits in each of the next two games.
Rosenthal talked about how Rodriguez has been everything the Mariners could have hoped for when they gave him a massive contract extension last year.
He earned Rookie of the Year honors and received a Silver Slugger Award last year.
The slugger is now also a two-time All-Star.
Rosenthal noted that Rodriguez had a tough first half, but managed to pull himself together and get hot to start the second half of the year.
