The San Diego Padres, not unlike the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals, have been one of baseball’s most disappointing teams.
After a run to the NLCS last year, they improved their roster by adding Michael Wacha, Xander Bogaerts, and Matt Carpenter in free agency.
However, even with Fernando Tatis Jr. coming back from his suspension, things have not gone according to plan for the Friars, who have now lost four games in a row and sit at 55-60, 4.5 games out in the Wild Card race.
On the MLB podcast “Foul Territory,” Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic made a grim prediction, stating that he believes there is turmoil in the team’s clubhouse.

Rosenthal says that he has heard various things about the Padres clubhouse this year.
He said that he isn’t able to fully confirm what’s true or not.
However, he did recall a quote from Juan Soto after Wednesday night’s loss to the Seattle Mariners, where the outfielder said that the Padres had essentially quit on the series against the M’s.
According to Rosenthal, there have been a number of player-led team meetings in the clubhouse this season.
He reiterated that he can’t confirm for certain what is happening, but noted that when a team is underperforming like this, it’s a safe bet that things aren’t exactly going well in the clubhouse.
Rosenthal believes that is the case for the Padres this year, as despite the talent on their roster, they have been unable to get things going.
