There is no doubt that the Golden State Warriors signed one of the best point guards of all time when they landed Chris Paul last month.

But there is doubt about how he will fit within the team, which is already filled with some great shooters and guards.

Will Paul be a starting player or will he regularly come off the bench for the first time in his career?

Kendrick Perkins believes that he should step up and do whatever is right for his new team.

Speaking on ESPN, Perkins stated that Paul should offer his services, however they are needed, to head coach Steve Kerr:

“I honestly believe this: Chris Paul should walk into training camp and really tell Steve Kerr, ‘Hey, I’m here to do whatever’s best for the team and I’m willing to come off the bench.’ It’s time.”

Seeing Paul become a bench player would be a massive change for the league.

He has literally started in every single game he has played in during his 18 years in the NBA.

Of course, he has been playing for 18 years and is now 38.

That means that things might have to change.

Paul is still a strong player, although his output on the court has diminished a bit over the last few seasons.

In 2022-23, Paul averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists and he played for 32 minutes per game.

Although he could lead just about any team in the league based solely on his talent, the Warriors still firmly belong to Stephen Curry.

And while the combination of Curry and Paul could be fun to watch and could score a lot of points, it doesn’t make a ton of sense.

That means that Paul might be the one to take a bench role.

He’s a smart player and understands the game, the business, and his position as an aging star.

Therefore, Paul will probably agree to this and enter a new phase of his career.
