The Philadelphia 76ers made a big statement by beating the Boston Celtics, the very team that has dominated them more often than not during the Joel Embiid era.
They’re now winners of six straight, with their only loss being in their season debut in a hard-fought road matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks.
That’s why former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins took to ESPN’s “First Take” to formally apologize to Embiid.
“Let me start off by apologizing and saying I’m sorry to Joel Embiid. … Joel Embiid is the best player in the Eastern Conference.”

The retired big man admitted that he had disrespected Embiid and acted like he wasn’t familiar with his game, adding that he’s the best player in the Eastern Conference right now.
He praised him as the reigning MVP and for leading the league in scoring two years in a row — three if you count this season.
As of now, Embiid is averaging 31.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.4 three-pointers, and 2.3 blocks per game on 53% from the floor, 40% from three, and 84% from the free-throw line.
Perkins added that he also owes head coach Nick Nurse an apology because he knows what he’s capable of after delivering a championship to the city of Toronto.
Furthermore, Perkins gave praise to Tyrese Maxey, arguing that he’s not only auditioning to get a big contract or to prove that he belongs in the same conversation as the likes of Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards, but also that Maxey saved the Sixers because Embiid doesn’t want to leave his side.
This 76ers look better than expected, and they should easily be considered a top-tier team in the East.
