Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs has definitely made some noise during the NBA preseason.
The incoming rookie has averaged 19 points a game and has also been a huge defensive problem for opponents throughout the ramp-up to the regular season.
Once again, people are wondering just what he can achieve this season.
Kendrick Perkins appeared on ESPN and claimed that Wembanyama could be an All-Star during his rookie year and could be “the best player in the league on both ends of the floor” within the next three seasons.
“There’s no other guy in the league like him, and I don’t think we’ve seen nothing like him,” Perkins said.
Perkins compared Wembanyama to a taller, leaner Kevin Durant, and touched upon all the many things the young player can do.
He can score in multiple ways with total ease, of course.
He is sometimes posting shots down in the paint, sometimes from the perimeter and beyond the three-point line too.
He is an offensive talent not just because of his size but also because of his gifted shot.
But Wembanyama is special because his defense is so daunting and suffocating too.
He is able to bat down shots, score defensive rebounds, and impose his massive size over nearly everyone he plays against.
In just the preseason alone, he has shown all that he can do – and he still has room to grow.
The regular season will throw a lot of challenges at Wembanyama and he will continually face off against seasoned veterans looking to humble him.
But this could also make the French star better.
By the time the All-Star Game comes around, his skill and experience could make him one of the best players in the league.
