As per usual, there are a few storylines coming into the NBA Finals, where the Boston Celtics will start the series as the host at TD Garden against the visiting Dallas Mavericks.
Perhaps the biggest storyline heading into this series on Thursday is superstar guard Kyrie Irving facing one of his former teams, where it didn’t end well as he promised to re-sign with the Celtics and decided to leave Boston in favor of teaming up with fellow superstar Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets.
Even though that decision turned out to be a disaster for Irving, the one-time NBA champion has come full circle as he has found a home with the Mavericks and seems to be the ideal teammate playing alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas.
However, Celtics fans will do everything they can to distract Irving in this series while expressing their disgust that he lied to them and bolted for what he thought were greener pastures with Durant in Brooklyn.
Although Celtics fans will almost certainly try to give Irving all he can handle while he’s in Boston during this series, former Celtics center turned ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins advises them to leave him alone, via Jim Rome.
“Leave him alone,” Perkins said.

With Irving resembling the player he once was in his prime with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the worst thing the Celtics fans can do is give him more fuel and motivation to beat them while in Boston.
Irving seems like the type of player who feeds off hatred, like his late mentor, Kobe Bryant, did during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, which might not work out well for Boston.
