Fans better get used to talking heads firing off their hot takes regarding Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers, because it’s going to be a long summer, and probably years of endless discussion about the first father-son duo to play together.
Kendrick Perkins fired off one of his takes recently, and it feels like he might be correct with this one.
On First Take this morning, Perkins said “I wouldn’t be surprised, and the world shouldn’t be surprised if he gets minutes in this season. Meaningful minutes…one thing you can’t question when it comes down to Bronny James is his IQ for the game of basketball.”

Given the fact that the Lakers already gave Bronny a four-year, fully guaranteed contract, it might be a foregone conclusion at this point that he’ll be getting minutes early on.
There doesn’t seem like a scenario where he ever gets sent to the G-League, and he signed for more than the minimum, which is unheard of on a four-year deal for a 55th overall pick.
The Lakers had to work this deal into their salary cap, so they almost have to play Bronny to justify having him on the active roster on this kind of contract.
Bronny showed off some impressive athleticism and a surprisingly strong jumper at the NBA Combine, which helped people forget about his abysmal numbers at USC, and it’s still possible the team can turn him into a legitimate NBA player.
Lakers fans are in for a unique season, to say the least.
