A few years ago, the Atlanta Hawks made a blockbuster trade during the NBA Draft to acquire point guard Trae Young in a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, which resulted in Mark Cuban’s squad landing Luka Doncic.

Even though Young has shown flashes of brilliance during his short time with Atlanta, it’s safe to say that the Hawks likely regret making this deal, with Doncic being one of the best players in the league as the undisputed leader of the Mavericks.

Young has gotten to the point where he’s one of the most talented young point guards in the league, but simply can’t seem to lead the Hawks to success, which has become even more glaring with the team playing better without him as Dejounte Murray has seemingly been a better fit as of late.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that without some playoff success this year, the Hawks will decide to move on from Young while he still has some trade value, as the duo with Murray doesn’t seem to be working, as ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins points out via NBA on ESPN.

Although Young doesn’t have the value that he once had a year or two ago, he’ll still be a valuable asset that the Hawks can move to bring in a nice trade haul in which the team can start rebuilding.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out in Atlanta and what the future holds for Young, as he could very well be playing for another team once the 2024 NBA regular season gets underway.
