There was a point in the NBA season when the New Orleans Pelicans looked like the best team in the league.
Their combination of youth and veterans meshed together perfectly, and the roster was quite balanced and well-coached for the better part of the campaign.
Then, Zion Williamson fell with an injury, and their hopes plummeted right away.
The former first-overall pick missed the final 46 games of the season with a hamstring injury, and the outcome of the season was predictable.
The Pelicans couldn’t hold on in the play-in tournament game vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder, ending their hopes of clinching a playoff berth.
That’s why former NBA champion and Pelicans player Kendrick Perkins believes that this season was a big failure in the Big Easy.
The New Orleans Pelicans Season was a COMPLETE FAILURE all across the board!!! Carry on…

Those words might be harsh, but he’s also kind of right.
The Pelicans proved that they could be a legit threat in the Western Conference playoffs when Zion was healthy, so having their season end like that is a huge disappointment.
The team has some fierce competitors like Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones, and CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram had arguably the best seasons of their careers.
But they need to do something about Zion’s health, even if it’s to build the team assuming he’s not going to be available for most of the season.
As dominant and talented as Zion is, they just can’t put all their stock in a player who might never be healthy when playoff time arrives.
