Team USA’s men’s basketball team won their fifth straight gold medal at the Olympics this weekend, clearly proving they are the best team in the world.
And, according to Kendrick Perkins, they also have the best player on earth.
Speaking on “Get Up”, per Awful Announcing and NBACentral, Perkins said that LeBron James is now officially the greatest basketball player of all time.
He said that James did everything Team USA needed during each game, even though he’s now 39 years old.
Plus, he has won more Olympic gold medals than Michael Jordan, further proving his place in NBA history.
Kendrick Perkins says LeBron James is officially the GOAT
“He got one up on MJ right now… he has three gold medals. MJ has two… he’s the most important player in basketball.”

Perkins has been a huge fan of James for years so it is not surprising to hear him make this statement.
There is no doubt that many people will push back against it.
However, there is also no doubt that James was a major part of Team USA’s win at the Olympics.
He might be nearly 40 years old but he is still doing things that someone half his age is lucky to accomplish.
James is a force of nature, whether at home with his Los Angeles Lakers or abroad with the national team.
Sadly, three gold medals will be all James receives because this was his last time going to the big games.
2028’s Team USA will have to succeed without him and probably Kevin Durant and Steph Curry too.
But since the next Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, all three stars may be in attendance to root for the new iteration of Team USA.
People will continue to debate if James is the GOAT but no one can debate his place in sports history.
