After finishing toward the bottom of the standings last season, the Houston Rockets took several steps to improve their roster ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Rockets were big spenders in free agency, signing Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks to lucrative deals that raised eyebrows around the league.
However, Houston is reaping the benefits of bringing in those two veterans as the team is currently 5-3 and in sixth place in the Western Conference.
Despite their young and inexperience, the Rockets are playing spirited basketball on both ends of the floor and are one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch.
Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun have taken leaps as players, while VanVleet and Brooks have brought defensive focus and discipline to the roster.
However, the biggest addition might be head coach Ime Udoka whom Kendrick Perkins gave plenty of credit to via his Twitter account.
Ime got the Rockets playing some damn good basketball!!!! Real Talk.

Houston picked up an impressive victory over the New Orleans Pelicans in their first game of group play for the In-Season Tournament, winning 104-101.
Udoka’s dramatic exit from the Boston Celtics has overshadowed the fact that he’s an excellent coach who can get the most out of his teams.
The former NBA player has a knack for instilling tough defensive-minded identities on his rosters, and the Rockets have been far more competitive on that end compared to recent years.
Although Udoka deserves praise for the job he’s done so far, Houston’s got a long way to go before they can call themselves a legitimate playoff contender.
