When Jalen Brunson decided to leave the Dallas Mavericks in favor of the New York Knicks a few years ago, it seemed like a bad move for the promising young guard out of Villanova, as most players fail to have success in the pressure-filled city of the Big Apple.

However, Brunson took a calculated risk, and it has paid off tremendously, as he has quickly become the face of the storied franchise in New York while making many believe he could go down as one of the greatest players in the team’s history.

Obviously, players can’t take their game and stardom to another level without having success in the NBA playoffs, but that’s precisely what he’s done this year, as he’s been putting up 40 points on a regular basis.

ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins isn’t convinced that the Knicks are a title contender as currently constructed, but he does believe they can be with another star player alongside Brunson in New York, via NBA on ESPN.

“He’s unguardable,” Perkins said. … “You get [Jalen Brunson] a Robin, whether it’s Julius Randle or they decide to make another move this offseason, absolutely he could lead the charge.”

With Brunson being a bona fide superstar in New York, the Knicks have some work to do in order to put the right talent around him, as all the team might be missing is a second star.

That star could already be there in Julius Randle, but it remains to be seen whether the team is all in on the veteran forward, considering he’s been unreliable due to injuries.
