The Dallas Mavericks lost Game 2 by seven points.

Kyrie Irving scored 16 points, 9.6 points below his season average of 25.6

By simple math, the Mavs would’ve won that game if Kyrie had scored his season average.

That’s why Kendrick Perkins called him out.

Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, the former NBA champion claimed that Kyrie has been horrible in the NBA Finals thus far, adding that they need him to elevate his game if they want to stand a chance in this series.

“Kyrie Irving has been horrible in this finals right now, and in order for the Dallas Mavericks to even have a chance of winning, he just has to elevate his game and make shots offensively.”

Perkins claimed that even though Luka Doncic is clearly the best player, the Mavs actually feed off Kyrie’s energy.

He noted that he’s struggling to get to his spots and find his offensive rhythm, adding that they just need him to play slightly above average to win.

Also, given his history with the Celtics organization and their fans, most people thought he would put on a show as soon as he set foot in the TD Garden.

Perhaps heading back home will allow him to focus on basketball and nothing else and thrive in front of his fans.

Also, we have to give credit where it’s due, and Jrue Holiday deserves a big round of applause for the way he’s defended Kyrie through the first two games of the series.

Still, you never want to poke the bear or count a player like him out, and there’s still plenty of basketball to be played.
