The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the NBA this season, at least record-wise.
Then again, for whatever reason, this group has underperformed against subpar teams in some head-scratching losses.
That was evident again on Thursday night during a loss to the undermanned Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers hit the road to play at the TD Garden, with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis out with injuries.
Joe Mazzulla’s team was at full strength and favored by almost 15 points in most sportsbooks, yet they could never even make it a close game.
That’s why former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins took to Twitter to claim they should be ashamed of themselves, jokingly stating that Davis and James could be holding Darvin Ham’s team back.
The Celtics should be ashamed of themselves!!! I guess Bron and AD been holding the Ham and the Lakers back lol. Carry the hell on…

Anybody can lose a game in the NBA; that’s just the way it goes.
However, this Celtics team often gets off to slow starts and struggles to dig themselves out of those holes.
Ham isn’t the most experienced coach in the league — neither is Mazzulla — and he’s been outcoached and exposed multiple times since taking the reins of the team, so it’s not like the Lakers were tactically superior or anything; they just wanted it more.
This Celtics team is fully expected to come out of the Eastern Conference and get back to the NBA Finals this season, but they need to bring the same intensity night in and night out.
As for the Lakers, they deserve plenty of credit for holding down the fort without their stars.
